Pompeii, with its 66 hectares of which about 50 excavated (including suburban areas), is a unique set of civil and private buildings, monuments, sculptures, paintings and mosaics of such importance for the history of archeology and antiquity to be recognized as World Heritage by 'UNESCO.
The ash and lava that buried the city following the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, narrated in two famous letters of Pliny the Younger, but also remembered by historians of the period, have allowed exceptional preservation of artifacts allowing you to have a vivid image of the organization of the Roman cities, such as the daily life of its inhabitants.
The ancient city is located on a plateau in control of the Sarno River Valley, whose mouth was a busy port. Today you can get by going to one of the ancient doors, that were along the walls (entrance Porta Marina), walking through its ancient original roads along which you can visit homes, modest and rich, with their decorative elements both parietal that pavements, shops, the Forum with its public spaces and buildings, sacred areas, spa complex and the buildings for shows in the theater and amphitheater quarter.

In the background of the archaeological site rises the Mount Vesuvius, considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in Europe. It hides a lot of wonders especially from the point of view of natural beauties protected by the program of Parco Nazionale del Vesuvio. The crater is at 1280 meters above sea (4000 ft) and not far there is a panoramic road from which you can see the amazing Gulf of Naples.
